Critical decision making simply is not found on the resumes of most corporate executives or public officials. While they may be well-educated and highly effective in routine decision making, few leaders are prepared for the challenges they face when thrust into the "crisis crucible". This is not an indictment, just a fact. Yet, it need not be so. There is a growing body of knowledge about critical decision making, along with models, case studies, simulations and strategies that can be learned by leaders, their organizations, and neighboring enterprises.
CDI provides education, training, and research in critical decision making for government and private sector leaders, and first responders in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Here are a couple of examples:
CDI developed and delivered a series of Crisis Leadership and Decision Making seminars for first responders in Oregon was co-developed with Portland State University's Mark O Hatfield School of Government.
CDI also created a disaster simulation of a train blown up on Portland, Oregon's Steel Bridge, triggering a chlorine leak from a nearby storage tank that sickens people attending a conference at the nearby Rose Garden Arena. The simulation involved cross discipline and cross jurisdictional response (city, county, state, interstate, federal) and has since been licensed to Crisis Simulations International, LLC.
